Removal of finishing material can be complete or partial – depending on the tasks set. Dismantling work of such a plan must be organized in a certain order, providing for a phased approach. First, it is necessary to prepare the bathroom or kitchen room, removing plumbing fixtures and components of the water supply system. The process of removing old finishing material itself consists of the following:
- Search for poorly fixed tiles. If the goal is to dismantle the entire surface of the wall or floor, then in this case it is advisable to tap the edges of each element in search of signs of weakening. The first tile is always removed quite difficult, and therefore great attention is paid to this moment.
- Knocking off tiles from the base. If it is planned to reuse the material, then the work should be carried out as carefully and without haste as possible. The process usually uses a chisel or spatula, which is inserted parallel between the tile and the surface. In the event that partial dismantling is required, adjacent elements are taped with masking tape.
- Breaking the tile. Such actions are appropriate when laying tiles directly in the mortar. Using a hammer and chisel, a hole is made in the middle of it, after which the cracked pieces are cut off. At the end of the dismantling work, the surface is cleaned for further leveling. Construction debris and dust are collected in special bags and taken out for disposal.
Methods of dismantling tiles

The method of removing the old coating is chosen depending on several factors.
- Manual dismantling. This method does not involve the use of power tools, since a chisel, spatula, mallet are preferred here. This method can be used to remove both individual elements and tiles from the entire surface. However, in the latter case, this method is not suitable for large volumes of work.
- Using vibrating tools. This is a renovator based on the oscillatory principle of operation. In this regard, the tool does not hit the tile, but only makes small oscillatory movements. A flat wide blade is chosen as a nozzle for it.
- Using a power tool. For this type of work, a perforator with a power of up to 800-900 W is best suited. The chiseling mode is selected on it at minimum speed. The nozzle is chosen the same as in the previous case.
Another format is a combined method. In this situation, several methods are used for dismantling. For example, a renovator will cope well with cutting through the joints between tiles, a spatula will help to manually remove the element with a minimum amount of dust. For tiles that hold very firmly, it will be appropriate to use a perforator.
Cost of tile removal service

The price of tile dismantling may vary for each individual case. When forming the final cost, the following factors are necessarily taken into account:
- The condition of the base. The service will be more expensive if the material is laid on a strong cement-sand mortar. Removing tiles from drywall costs less.
- The need to maintain the integrity of tiles, ceramics, porcelain stoneware, mosaics. The cost increases almost twice, since in this case almost jewelry work is performed manually.
- The volume of work. For small volumes - such as a kitchen apron, workers often charge a fixed minimum rate for departure.
Cleaning the tiles from glue if necessary, as well as removing construction debris is a separate expense item.
